Updates re Khun Yaai - Doen's grandmother

23 January 2010

Khun Yaai is in hospital now. We visited her today. She had a broad smile on her face when we mentioned Jesus and prayed for her.

Please keep praying for her.

Thanks

Stefan

13 January 2010

Doen’s grandmother seems to really believe. She told her sister in Isaan about Jesus. She is shining, read the whole bible and is not scared about death anymore.

Doen almost in his sleep says “Jesus loves the whole world” and goes back to sleep again.

I love these kind of bible studies, where people come to me and tell me Adam and Eve are Jesus parents. This is the kind of pioneering stuff I always wanted to do

Dear Ian,

Thai Connections News Letter - January 2010

"I am the vine and you are the branches; he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing...if you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you" John 15:5,7

Khun Yai: Thai for Grandmother

Kam Siri is an outreach ministry of FCF targeting the "old city" of Chiangmai. This inner-city area is over 800 years old. The people who live there are rather poor and very Buddhist. There are no Thai Churches in this densely packed area, and virtually no Christians. Stefan Mickels has been seeking to bring the light of Christ into this very dark corner of the city with the vision of seeing a growing community of faith.

One aspect of their ministry is their work with children. Every day after school you will find kids at the "Kam Siri House"; getting help with homework, playing ping pong, or hanging out on a hammock under the house. Often you will find kids in informal discussions about the Bible, asking questions and wanting to know about Jesus. On Saturdays and Sundays there are organized programs of worship and Bible study.

Derrin (not his real name) is one of the children who has become a regular at Kam Siri. He is 6 years old and a solid candidate for the ADD poster child of the year! Derrin comes often, but Stefan was not sure how much was sinking in with this often distracted, and always distracting young man!

Last month it was discovered that Derrin's grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Stefan went to visit her and was praying for an opportunity to share the hope of Christ. After talking awhile, Stefan asked if he could pray for her. She knew that Stefan was a Christian, and replied "Oh, you don't need to pray for me. My grandson has been praying for me every day and telling me all about Jesus." We had no clue that Jesus meant anything to this young boy, but he had been faithfully praying and witnessing to his grandmother for several months!

Stefan did pray for her and returned often to visit and share more about Christ. On his next visit, Derrin's mother pulled Stefan aside when he arrived and shared that Khun Yai (Grandmother) was terrified of dying. That was the open door Stefan was looking for. He shared with Khun Yai the hope of Jesus and the confidence we can have of going to be with Him when we die, to a place of peace and joy. She eagerly prayed to receive Christ and the results have been dramatic. Although her body is growing weaker, her smile and joyful countenance grows brighter each passing day. She is often found reading the Bible Stefan gave her. She has found true and lasting peace through the work of Christ.

In a land where there is so little hope, and where people's lives are dominated by every kind of fear imaginable, it is amazing to see what happens when the light of Jesus dawns and a new world with hope and promise opens before the eyes of one who believes. Khun Yai may not have many days left on this earth, but she can now face death with hope and joy because of the faithful witness of her six-year-old hyperactive grandson! God is amazing, and Jesus truly makes all the difference in the world!

Please pray for Khun Yai and Derrin, and for the rest of their family who have not yet come to Christ. Also, pray for Stefan as he faithfully reaches out with the good news in this very dark corner of the city.

Thank you so much for being a part of our team! We are so thankful for your prayers and support - we would not be here without it!

Sincerely,
Tim Dunham

Testimonies from
Mobile training

Cahtaw's Testimony. (Cahtaw was one of 5 men and women that gave testimony of how they learned and were blessed with this training.)
He said, "I have been a Christian many years and serving in Church as a leader. But I had a problem in my understanding the Word of God especially Jesus crucifixion on the cross and that He died on the cross for us, and that I have to believe that for my salvation! Is it true! I am so thankful to God that, through this training, I now understand that Jesus Christ is raised from the dead according to Scripture, and He is alive, and I believe in a living God, not one who is dead!

Caheh said: "I had peace in my heart after listening to the Word of God. There was one night after coming back from training I felt I was hungry and cooked rice for supper. But rice was cooked and my hunger was gone. I thought "what is wrong with me?" I had peace through the Word of God which I heard, and it filled my heart! Praise God for it!

Dear Friends and Partners,

Dr. Luke said, "it came to pas as the angles were gone away them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now to even unto Bethlehem and see this thing which is come to pass which the Lord hath make known unto us" (Lk. 2:15 KJV)

We are chosen to be messenger of the Lord.

Please read the Lahu Living Word news letter and continuesly pary with us.

Sincerely, Joshua

BLT1

The BLT1 "Biblical Leadership Training" for 2009 was held from December 1-19, at Maesai.

Six full-time students could not come to the training and study God's Word with us because the Lahu Baptist Convention of Burma would not allow them. We deeply regret this decision by the LBS - Please do pray for the LBC and its leaders that
thye will have a change of heart in this matter.
Praise We did have 4 students (from other groups) who were able to attend - they were very outstanding in the study of the Word of God. They were able to learn many subjects; Laying Foundation, Church History, Homiletics, Servant Leadership, and Health Care. Through the training they were further equipped for themselves and in their ability to do the ministry of preaching and teaching God's Word.

During the third week we had an alumni gathering. These had finished BLT1 some years ago and had gone on into the ministry. We had 7 alumni come back for a recharge and had a wonderful fellowship of sharing and praying together. Each one shared how they serve and how God's grace has been with them.

Praise God that all of them are faithful in serving God in the areas where God put them. Many people have heard the Gospel of salvation and many laymen were trained to be leaders in the local Churches.

Obstacles and problems become a tool for spiritual maturing and a challenge to go forward toward the mark. We have our heroes and Lord Jesus Himself who has gone through life and had victory. This is a great example for us to follow. The most important thing is our Lord Jesus promised that He will be with us forever, even the end of the world.

Please do pray for BLT1 for 2010. This is the last year of the present group and there will be a combined graduation in November 2010.

Mobile Training

Our last Mobile training for 2009 was held in Puna Church two days after BLT1 at Maesai. I was worried about timing and health, but thank God that Mr. Paseh and Mr. Lihkai were willing to start before I could join them. They did a very good job conducting question and answer times from lessons No. 1 & 2 of the correspondence course (on Biblical doctrines and being born again).

I was there the last two days to interpret Mr. David Kibbe's teaching on the Gospel from 1 Cor. 15:3-5. There were about 80 youth and adult attending the training, and most of them had not heard the true Gospel. These think they are Christians by following their parents and keeping the traditions. Most of them were very quiet and listened to the Word of God carefully and with great attention!

I believe the Word of God touched and opened their hearts to see what God has done for them. Many got saved this time. None of them fell asleep!

I summarized all the lessons and the Gospel at the end and gave them a chance to share what they had learned and know about God and Salvation. There were several who came out and shared from their heart that it was the first time in their lives that they could attend a Bible teaching class. Many confessed that they were saved through this training and others asked that we please come again and teach more. They are really begging for the Word of God.

Schedule of January 2010

3 Mobile Trainings;

January 11-14 at Maesak Church
January 18-22 at Puna Church
January 25-29 at Huaipahaw Church
